UU SELECTS CAMBI’S COMPACT THP “PLUG-AND-PLAY” MODULE

United Utilities, one of UK’s three largest water companies, has awarded two contracts for Cambi’s B2-THP system at Leigh and Burnley Sewage Works via framework contractor, KMI. The Cambi B2-THP system is a complete thermal hydrolysis system in one pre-fabricated container sized unit that can be installed as a plug and play module.

United Utilities is well acquainted with CambiTHP™ by the ownership and operation of one of the two largest operating THP systems in the world at Davyhulme Sludge Center. This plant treats 250 dry metric tons per day. These new projects are much smaller and treat between 15 -25 dry metric tons per day.

The contracts represent a vote of confidence in the Cambi technology – as the Davyhulme project has been very successful. It also demonstrates that CambiTHP™ is competitive and can be implemented at a smaller scale.

United Utilities regional sludge manager Rick Lancaster says: “The Davyhulme project has been a great success. It does what is says on the tin and more. The output of electrical power and the quality of the biosolids product is as good as we could have expected. Now we are extending our programme of advanced digestion to a number of other sites. We are pleased that Cambi have responded to the need for cost effective systems that can be used at smaller and more remote sites.”

Cambi’s chief executive officer Atila Mellilo welcomes UU’s decision of choosing Cambi also for its smaller sewage works: “The Cambi Containerized B2-THP is for medium sized Waste Water Treatment Plants from about 50,000 – 250,000 population equivalent and gives the same benefits as the Cambi’s larger systems: more biogas, half the disposal costs, and double digestion capacity.”
