Cardiff
Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water wanted to address the escalating costs of power by creating its own energy. This required a substantial investment for advanced digestion, with Cambi's thermal hydrolysis process as the core technology. One of the plants central to their strategy is Cardiff Waste Water Treatment Works.
Cardiff WwTW has a sludge centre that treats both indigenous and imported sludge using advanced digestion. The indigenous sludge is processed using sequencing batch reactors (SBRs) and is dewatered to about 19% dry solids before it is fed into the CambiTHP unit. Imported sludge, on the other hand, is first stored and then hydrolysed. After advanced digestion and dewatering, the biosolids are applied to agricultural lands.
