The Leigh Wastewater Treatment Works receives flows from the towns of Leigh and Atherton. It is designed to handle up to 51000 m3/d. The treated effluent is discharged into River Glaze, also known as Glaze Brook. The treatment train consists of primary treatment followed by biological filters, Hummus tanks, and BAFF as tertiary treatment. The plant treats 7,400 tonnes of dry solids per year, and the treated biosolids are used for land application.
