Milton Keynes - Cotton Valley

The Cotton Valley sewage treatment works (STW) serves a population equivalent of 2.57 million and treats 22,240 tonnes of dry solids per year.

Prior to using Cambi's thermal hydrolysis process, the utility used lime for pathogen kill, but this also increased biosolids' volume. To reduce the environmental impact of their biosolids output, Anglian Water decided to invest in a thermal hydrolysis process unit. Primary and secondary sludge are treated at the facility. The phases for sludge treatment at the site include screening, pre-dewatering, thermal hydrolysis, anaerobic digestion, gas holding, and final dewatering. The biosolids are pathogen-free, odour-free, and are used for land application.
