Raleigh - Neuse River

Raleigh launched the Bio-Energy Recovery Project in 2019, transforming the Neuse River Wastewater Treatment Plant into the Neuse River Resource Recovery Facility (NRRRF) through the implementation of advanced anaerobic digestion technology.

As the city’s largest and primary wastewater treatment facility, the NRRRF will benefit significantly from this shift to thermal hydrolysis (THP) technology. Biogas produced during the process will be converted into renewable natural gas (RNG) to power the city’s transportation system. Meanwhile, biosolids production will be significantly reduced, resulting in a smaller environmental footprint while producing a high-quality end product.

Cambi’s THP system was successfully commissioned at the NRRRF in late 2024.
