The construction of the El Trebal Mapocho wastewater plant was a strategic step by Aguas Andinas towards reducing the contamination of the Mapocho river, the largest river running through the city of Santiago.
Cambi's thermal hydrolysis process helped enhance biogas production, generating majority of the electricity needed to operate the entire plant. Due to thermal hydrolysis, the final biosolids are pasteurised and free of pathogen re-growth, making them suitable for land application.
In 2012, ICARE acknowledged Aguas Andinas as the year's "Best Company," one of Chile's most prestigious awards.
