Cambi entered into an agreement with a consortium comprising Espina, Obrascon, and Aquambiente to supply a thermal hydrolysis process (THP) system for the new Silvouta Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in Santiago de Compostela, Spain.

The THP system will be installed between two digestion stages, a proven Cambi configuration called i-THP designed to:

  • Maximise biogas production for energy generation
  • Enhance sludge dewatering, reducing disposal costs
  • Produce high-quality, stable biosolids for agricultural use

By integrating Cambi’s technology, Silvouta WWTP will achieve a more sustainable, cost-effective, and resource-efficient sludge treatment process, contributing to Spain’s circular economy goals.

The Silvouta WWTP, built by Aguas de las Cuencas de España (ACUAES), will treat an average wastewater flow equivalent to an Olympic-sized swimming pool per hour, serving a population of 250,000 residents. The plant is designed to generate its own energy and recover valuable resources from sludge.

Silvouta will be Cambi’s fifth installation in Spain, reinforcing our commitment to delivering innovative wastewater treatment solutions across the country. Delivery of the THP system is scheduled for 2026.
