Abstract
Thermal Hydrolysis Advanced Anaerobic Digestion (THP AAD) has been successfully applied in Gaobeidian Water Reclamation Plant (WRP) in Beijing since 2018 to upgrade the existing sludge digestion facility. This paper is describing the continuous development in Gaobeidian in last 4 decades, the upgrading of conventional digestion in 2016-2018 with THP AAD, the key design features for THP AAD, and overall performance in 2019-2023 period. The THP AAD plays a key role in Gaobeidian for innovative and compact solution, efficient sludge treatment, significant biogas energy recovery, and high quality biosolids for land application, therefore contributes to circular economy and low carbon development in water sector in China.
